Requirements:
§ Minimum of 360 days of sea experience on Navigable waters applicable
for evaluation (a day at sea is anything more than four hours in a twenty-four hour period).
§ 90 days (of the 360 total) must be within the last 3 calendar years.
§ You may use
time accumulated since your 16th birthday.
§ Time on your own vessel is valid — must
have registration numbers/proof of ownership.
§ Time on other vessels must be documented by letter from the owner.
Note- Time from any registered or documented vessel is valid: work/pleasure, large (up to 300 tons) or small power or sail vessels. Time on rowing vessels is not applicable.
Additional Costs:
Coast Guard license evaluation
fee ($145), physical examination, drug test, and First Aid and CPR certification (if needed).
